Info

Avaldesia tamatoa Donohoo & Gosliner, 2024

The genus Avaldesia was recreated in 2024 and currently only includes 3 species. Thordisa alsbomaculata became Avaldesia albomacula (J. M. Chan & Gosliner, 2007) and Thordisa tahala became Avaldesia tahala (J. M. Chan & Gosliner, 2007). In addition, the new species Avaldesia tamatoa was described for the first time.

Avaldesia tamatoa is variable in color. Most specimens have been found in Halimeda lagoon areas at depths of 7 to 10 m, but several have also been found under rocks in shallow lagoon reefs.
